Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former lawmaker of Noakhali-6 constituency Mohammad Ali, along with his wife Ayesha Ferdous, and children Ashique Ali, Mahtab Ali, and Sumaiya Ali Eshita, due to graft allegations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The petition requested an order to prevent the five accused from leaving the country, citing accusations of accumulating illegal wealth beyond known income sources and attempts to flee to avoid punishment.
ACC Deputy Director of Public Relations, Aktarul Islam, confirmed the development to BSS. The petition further alleged that the family had amassed significant illegal assets through the embezzlement of public funds by abusing power. Additionally, they face accusations of money laundering, unlawfully seizing khas land, and constructing a five-storey commercial hotel on the said land.
