Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on Sadia Maleque and Synthia Maleque, daughters of former health minister Zahid Maleque, over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC plea indicated that an investigation team has been formed to probe allegations of corruption against Sadia Maleque and Synthia Maleque. During the inquiry, review of documents and information obtained from confidential sources suggested that the accused persons, with the assistance of their father, former health minister Zahid Maleque, were attempting to leave the country.

The application further stated that if the individuals accused manage to flee abroad, the verification and investigation process may be hampered. Therefore, in the interest of ensuring a proper investigation, it is essential to restrict the overseas travel of the individuals concerned, the plea added.
