Teknaf: The joint forces led by Bangladesh Navy apprehended Shamsul Haque, also known as Bodafula, in an overnight operation in the Nazirpara area of Teknaf upazila. Shamsul is a suspect with warrants in several criminal cases related to firearms and ammunitions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was conducted by the naval contingent and its special forces, Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (AWADS), based on secret information. The forces managed to detain Shamsul while he attempted to flee, as stated in a release by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

Following his arrest, local police seized two foreign pistols, two rounds of pistol bullets, two rounds of shotgun bullets, and a domestic sharp weapon from his makeshift hut located in a watermelon field. The police noted that Shamsul has been involved in numerous criminal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal land occupation.

Shamsul has been handed over to the Teknaf Police Station along with the recovered weapons and ammunitions for legal proceedings. The Bangladesh Navy’s ongoing operations aim to ensure security in sea and coastal areas as part of the current government’s and Election Commission’s directives ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (parliamentary) Polls.

The ISPR further mentioned that nearly 5,000 Navy personnel have been deployed in 25 contingents across 16 parliamentary constituencies in eight districts to facilitate a fair and free election.
