Trader Fined Tk 2 Lakh for Selling Adulterated Cumin in Tangail

Tangail: The District National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined a trader Taka 2 lakh for selling adulterated cumin in Tangail. The penalty was executed against Malek Enterprise, a business situated on Elenga College Road in Kalihati upazila, during a mobile court operation headed by Asaduzzaman Rumel, the Assistant Director of the District National Consumer Rights Protection Department.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials discovered that the owner of Malek Enterprise, Barek Mia, was involved in mixing low-quality cumin with varieties imported from India and Egypt, as well as cumin from different districts of Bangladesh. This adulterated cumin was then packaged and sold under the brand name New Diamond Cumin.



Asaduzzaman Rumel explained that the fine was imposed due to the sale of adulterated products, which constitutes a punishable offence under consumer protection laws. The operation was conducted with the presence of Upazila Sanitary Inspector Nazma Akhter, alongside members of the police and army.
