DHAKA: Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain is set to visit Beijing starting January 20, responding to an invitation from the Chinese government to engage in discussions on a spectrum of bilateral issues. The visit aims to bolster Bangladesh’s diplomatic relations with China, while balancing its connections with other global powers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Touhid confirmed the invitation from China and stated his intention to address shared concerns during the visit. Specific topics for discussion have not been disclosed, but an inter-ministerial meeting is planned to finalize the agenda ahead of the Beijing talks.
The visit is part of Dhaka’s broader strategy to maintain balanced foreign relations, not only with China but also with the United States and India. Touhid has previously underscored Bangladesh’s dedication to enhancing both economic and security partnerships with China, as well as advancing cooperation in areas such as clean energy and infrastructure development.
At a recent seminar, Touhid highlighted the strategic importance of improving connectivity between Bangladesh and China via Myanmar, noting the mutual advantages such an initiative could offer. This year marks a significant milestone as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
