Tk 1,387 cr for youth and sports development

DHAKA, June 1, 2017, (BSS) - The government has allocated Taka 1387 crore in the proposed budget for 2017-18 fiscal, Taka 465 crore more over the current fiscal year, for the development of youth and sports.

"I propose an allocation of Tk 1,387 crore, development and non-development combined, in the next year's budget for the development of youths and sports," Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said today (Thursday) while placing the budget for the next financial year.

In the proposed budget, Taka 327 crore has been allocated for development work while 1059 crore allocated for non-development issues.

Finance Minister in his speech said: "The government intends to turn the educated and unemployed youth into skilled human resources by imparting appropriate training and ensure their employment by expanding the national service programme across the country.

We also plan to revise the existing training programmes and curricula in the light of the needs in domestic and external labour markets. Furthermore, the current initiatives for hunting sports talents, grooming sportspersons and building sports infrastructure of international standard will continue."

The following activities/ projects/ programmes are scheduled to be implemented in 2017-18 fiscal year:

-- Establishment of new youth training centers in the remaining 11 districts, training program at upazila level for creation of employment and self-employment project, integrated management of resource for poverty elevation through comprehensive technology, strengthening and modernizing of Sheikh Hasina Modern Youth Center project, technology empowerment center on wheels for underpriced rural young people of Bangladesh, enhancing capacity of the department of youth development for training in information technology in 64 districts.

-- Development of Nilphamari, Netrokona district stadiums and construction of Rangpur woman's sports complex, renovation and development of Kishorganj Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam stadium and construction of Shaheed Ivy Rahman stadium at Bhairab upazila in Kishorganj district, construction of indoor stadium of Natore and Gaibandha.

Development of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta stadium, Comilla and construction of swimming pool at Comilla head quarters, construction of swimming pool at Chittagong divisional headquarters, construction of mini stadium at upazila level, extensive training through talent hunt program at grassroots level and modernization of sports and facilities at BKSP, development of regional training center at BKSP and construction of shooting range in Mymensingh, Rangpur, Patukhali, Bogra and Barguna districts.
