Munshiganj: The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company has executed operations in Munshiganj and Gazipur to sever illegal gas connections and collect fines. These operations, conducted on Tuesday, aimed to address the issue of unauthorized gas usage in these regions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the company's operations were led by executive magistrates who targeted areas with significant illegal connections. In the Jamaldi area of Gazaria upazila, Munshiganj district, the team disconnected illegal gas lines from a marble factory, three restaurants, and a bakery, and dismantled 60 feet of unauthorized pipelines. The operation resulted in fines amounting to approximately Taka 1,10,000 from the proprietors, and three legal cases were filed.
The intervention in Munshiganj is estimated to have saved around 2,82,285 cubic feet of gas, translating to a monthly value of about Taka 2,40,000. In Gazipur district, another mobile court led by an executive magistrate targeted the Teknagpara and Telipara areas under Bason Thana. The team disconnected illegal connections from 70 residential houses and removed 300 feet of pipeline. This operation is expected to save gas valued at approximately Taka 75,600 per month.
The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company has announced that similar future drives will be conducted, aiming to prevent gas wastage and ensure a reliable supply to legitimate users.
