Timeline of 50 years of Bangladesh-Vietnam ties

September 2, 1945: President H? Chí Minh declared independence and proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. After the Geneva Agreement was signed in 1954, Vietnam was temporarily divided into two regions.

December 20, 1960: The National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was set up. The National Liberation Front performed a dual function, as a united national front to unite all patriotic forces in South Vietnam to the liberation of the south of Vietnam and national reunification, and as a revolutionary administration before the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam was set up.

June 6, 1969: The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam was established to provide a formal governmental structure to the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam and represent the Southern people.

March 26, 1971: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the independence of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

1972:

- April: Two delegations of the World Peace Protection Committees of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam paid visits to Bangladesh.

- November 25: The Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the People's Republic of Bangladesh mutually recognised.

1973:

- January: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sent a message of congratulations to Democratic Republic of Vietnam Prime Minister Ph?m Van Ð?ng on the signing of the Paris Peace Accords.

- February 11: The Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the People's Republic of Bangladesh established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.

- May:

The special envoy of the prime minister of Bangladesh paid a visit to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Two delegations of the World Peace Protection Committees of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam attended the World Peace Conference in Dhaka.

- July: The foreign minister of Bangladesh paid a visit to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

- July 26: Bangladesh recognised the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.

- October: The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.

1974:

- February 18: The Embassy of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam in Dhaka was opened.

(After Vietnam's reunification in 1976, it was turned into the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Dhaka).

- October: The Chairman of the Consultative Council of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam Nguy?n H?u Th? paid an official visit to Bangladesh.

1977:

- February: The special envoy of the prime minister, deputy foreign minister of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

- September: The deputy foreign trade minister of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

1978:

- May: A delegation of two Bangladesh economists paid a visit to Vietnam.

- July: The Economic Delegation of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- August: The commerce secretary of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- December: The deputy prime minister, minister of foreign affairs of Vietnam, paid a visit to Bangladesh.

1982:

July: The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Dhaka was closed due to financial difficulties.

1993:

- The two countries signed the "Air Service Agreement."

- November: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Ha Noi was opened.

1994:

- May: The deputy prime minister, minister of foreign affairs of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

- The two countries signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Foreign Office Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs" and the Agreement on Economic and Science-Technology Cooperation."

1996:

- September: The commerce minister of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- The two countries signed the "Trade Agreement."

1997:

- March: The prime minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam paid an official visit to Bangladesh.

- The two countries signed the "Cultural Agreement," "Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation," "Agreement on Cooperation between the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)," and "Agreement on Cooperation between Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Bangladesh Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry."

1999:

- May: foreign minister of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- The two countries signed the "Agreement on Cooperation on Water Resources Development and Flood Control" and "Agreement on Visa Exemption for Diplomatic or Official Passport Holders."

2000:

The two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $23.7 million.

2002:

March: The deputy foreign minister of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

2003:

- January: The Embassy of Vietnam in Dhaka was re-opened.

- July: The foreign minister of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

- November: The minister of agriculture of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

2004:

- March: The president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tr?n Ð?c Luong paid a state visit to Bangladesh.

- The two countries signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Agriculture" and the "Agreement on Double Taxation Avoidance."

- July: The state minister of cultural affairs of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- July: The foreign minister of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

2005:

- May: The prime minister of Bangladesh paid an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

- The two countries signed the "Agreement on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments."

2006:

- February: The 1st Meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in Ha Noi.

2008:

Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $64.6 million.

2009:

- May: The minister of industries of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- August: The state minister of science and information and communication technology of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

- November: The deputy minister of industry and trade of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

- November: The minister of health and social welfare of Bangladesh paid a visit to Vietnam.

2010:

- The two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $288 million.

- October: Delegation of the Ministry of Land of Bangladesh visited Vietnam.

- April: The vice chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tòng Th? Phóng attended the 136th IPU Assembly in Dhaka and held bilateral talks with Parliament Speaker of Bangladesh Sharin Sharmin Chaudhury.

- July: The parliament speaker of Bangladesh paid an official visit to Vietnam.

- August: The 1st Foreign Office Consultation was held in Dhaka.

2018:

- March: The president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tr?n Ð?i Quang paid a state visit to Bangladesh.

- Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $813 million.

2019:

- January: The special envoy of the prime minister, deputy foreign minister of Vietnam paid a visit to Bangladesh.

- Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $1.35 billion.

2022:

- January: Telephone conversation between Foreign Minister of Vietnam Bùi Thanh Son and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh AK Abdul Momen.

- August: Bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers during their participation in the 29th ASEAN Regional Forum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

- Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Bangladesh was $1.47 billion.
