Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed on Thursday emphasized that Bangladesh faces issues and challenges with all nations, which will be addressed through discussions at bilateral and multilateral forums. She highlighted the need for a fresh perspective on Bangladesh, noting the government’s strengthened position after being elected through people’s mandate.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the State Minister addressed reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, outlining how the foreign policy of a democratic government should operate. When questioned about the interim government’s stance on deploying Bangladeshi troops to Gaza and renewing the Ganges water-sharing treaty with India, she clarified that these topics have not yet been politically debated. She urged patience, acknowledging that political decisions on these matters will follow in due course.
Shama Obaed also discussed Bangladesh’s relations with India, China, and the United States, asserting that the country will tackle challenges through both bilateral and multilateral engagements. She emphasized the importance of safeguarding Bangladesh’s interests while maintaining relations with all states and governments.
The State Minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to pursuing a principled foreign policy that prioritizes the interests of the people. She affirmed that Bangladesh will continue engaging with all countries, with diplomacy conducted to effectively protect national interests. The experienced officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work collaboratively to further these goals.
Shama Obaed also addressed visa restrictions imposed by several countries, stating that the Ministry is actively working on resolving these issues through diplomatic channels. She underscored the importance of addressing these challenges constructively.
The day’s proceedings included a series of meetings between Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the State Minister, and senior officials of the Ministry.
