Timber Truck Accident Claims Two Lives in Lama

Lama: Two people were killed when a timber-laden truck fell into a deep gorge in Lama upazila of Bandarban on Thursday night. The accident occurred at the Yangcha turning point of the Fasiakhali-Lama road.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased were identified as truck driver Md Alamgir, 35, and Anwar Hossain, 45. Alamgir was from the Yangcha Kalirjhirri area, and Anwar was from the Poang Bari area. Another individual named Putia from the Thandajhiri area sustained injuries in the accident.



Local sources reported that the truck, loaded with timber, was en route to Yangcha from the Bonpur area of Fasiakhali around 8 pm on Thursday. As the vehicle reached the Yangcha turning point, the driver lost control, causing the truck to plunge nearly 200 feet into a gorge.



Locals managed to rescue Alamgir and Anwar, who were initially injured. They were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, but the on-duty doctors declared them dead.



Officer-in-Charge of Lama Police Station, Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal, confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families on Friday morning after an inquest, as no complaint was filed. An unnatural death case has been recorded, and further legal action will be taken following an investigation.
