Chandpur: A woman and two children drowned in separate incidents at Sadar upazila today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first tragedy occurred around 10 am at Bakharpur village under Chandra union. A woman named Khadija Akhter, 30, and her son Abu Bakar, 7, drowned in a pond while taking a bath. Family sources revealed that Khadija and her two children were visiting her father's house in Bakharpur village. Unaware of the danger, they went to the pond despite not knowing how to swim. In a desperate attempt to save her children, Khadija managed to rescue her elder son but tragically drowned along with her younger son.
The family rushed them to Chandpur Government Jalal Hospital, where doctors declared both mother and son dead. Khadija's sister, Kulsuma, mentioned that Khadija had come from Faridpur to visit their father and was planning to return to Dhaka with her husband, Lokman, today.
In a separate incident in Balia union of the upazila, a two-year-old girl named Maksuda drowned in a pond around 10.30 am. Despite being promptly rescued and taken to Chandpur Government Hospital, the on-duty doctor declared the child dead. Maksuda was the daughter of Md. Fazlur Rahman.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Bahar Mia, confirmed the incidents, marking a day of sorrow for the Chandpur community.
