Three Major Organizations Contribute Over Tk 88.66 Crore to Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation

Dhaka: Three prominent organizations-Grameenphone Ltd, British-American Tobacco (BAT), and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd-have collectively contributed Taka 88 crore 66 lac 34,359 to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF) fund.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the companies provided this substantial sum at a rate of 0.5 percent of their annual profits in compliance with the Bangladesh Labour Act-2006 (Amended 2018). The cheques were officially handed over to the adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, at his office in the Bangladesh secretariat.



The financial contributions were broken down as follows: Grameenphone Ltd contributed Taka 68 crore 80 lac 61,500, British-American Tobacco provided Taka 15 crore 98 lac 30,757, and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd contributed Taka three crore nine lac 42,086. This information was included in the official handout.



The funds are designated for the BLWF and will be allocated for the socio-economic development of the country’s labor force. Present at the cheque handover ceremony were Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment Dr. Md. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Director General of Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation Md Munir Hossain Khan, and representatives from Grameenphone Ltd, BAT Bangladesh, and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd.
