Kurigram: Three activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami were injured after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram on Monday. The unusual incident unfolded at Birhim village under the Bazra union of the upazila during the afternoon hours.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the injured individuals are identified as Samiul Islam, aged 35, who serves as the secretary of the Bazra union unit of Jamaat; Firoz Hossain, aged 37, the president of its Ulema wing; and Tojammel Mia, aged 47, a party worker. All three are residents of Madhya Bazra village. The trio was reportedly traveling on a motorcycle to attend a party program when they encountered the bee attack in front of Rabbani Mia’s house in Birhim village.

Locals recounted that as the bees descended, the Jamaat men halted their motorcycle and sought refuge in a nearby house. Despite the efforts of locals who attempted to drive away the bees by lighting a fire, the three individuals had already sustained injuries. Witness Nazmul Islam noted the victims became disoriented during the attack but were eventually rescued by the locals.

Following the incident, two of the injured were taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex in neighboring Gaibandha for medical treatment. Dr. Farhana Binte Faruk, the resident medical officer at the hospital, reported that Tojammel Mia suffered approximately 40 stings and was later referred to Rangpur for further treatment. Samiul Islam received primary treatment and was discharged, while Firoz Hossain received treatment locally.
