Louhjang: A mobile court has sentenced three individuals to three months' imprisonment for illegally extracting sand from the Padma river at Louhjang upazila. The convicts are identified as Md. Mokles from Goshani village in Dashmina upazila, Md. Farukh from Charchanda village in Shibchar upazila, and Md. Jewel from Kachibunia village in Rangabali upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was spearheaded by Louhjang Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Nesaruddin. The drive was conducted near the Padma Bridge from midnight on Friday until 5 am. The three individuals were apprehended during this initiative for their involvement in unauthorized sand extraction.
Following their arrest, the mobile court sentenced the trio to three months in jail. Additionally, two dredgers employed in the sand extraction process were rendered inoperative. Md. Nesaruddin emphasized that the upazila administration is committed to regularly conducting operations against illegal dredging to protect the river, with plans to continue these efforts going forward.
