Rajshahi: Barishal rode on three half-century performances to reach 266-7 against Rangpur on Day 1 of the fifth round game of the National Cricket League (NCL) at Rajshahi Stadium today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, opener Iftekhar Hossain Ifti continued his rich vein of form by making 70, while Salman Hossain Emon scored 67. Tasamul Haque was the other batter to contribute significantly with a score of 51.
After being asked to bat first, Barishal found themselves in trouble, reduced to 43-3. However, Ifti and Emon shared a crucial 111-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which rescued the side from the early collapse. Despite this recovery, Rangpur hit back by claiming the wickets of the two set batters in quick succession.
Tasamul Haque, supported by Sohag Gazi who added 35 runs, helped Barishal claw back into the game. At stumps, skipper Tanvir Islam was batting on 6, with Moin Khan yet to score.
