Chattogram: Sadarghat Naval Police today detained three people and seized 400 sacks of urea fertilizer from a cargo boat on the Karnaphuli River while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle the fertilizer into Myanmar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detainees were identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Shekhan, 45, Abdul Haque, 24, and Nurul Islam Jahed, 16. All of them are residents of Moheshkhali Upazila in Cox's Bazar. The operation was conducted around 4:30am near Balur Math (sand depot), west of Chaktai Canal in the Kotwali Police Station area of the city.
Police stated that the urea fertilizer had been loaded onto the cargo boat with the intention of smuggling it into Myanmar. During the raid, police detained the three individuals at the scene and seized the 400 sacks of fertilizer. In addition to the seizure of the fertilizer, police also seized the cargo boat.
Md Abdur Rob, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Naval Police Station, confirmed the incident. Legal proceedings against the detainees are currently underway, according to the officer-in-charge.
