International Cooperation Crucial for Health, SDGs: Humaiun

Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir today underscored the importance of international cooperation and multilateral partnerships in advancing global health and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He made the remarks during a meeting with World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Bangladesh Dr. Ahmed Jamsheed Mohamed at his office here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, the two officials discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in public health, health security, disease prevention, and access to essential health services. Kobir expressed appreciation for WHO's continued cooperation and support in enhancing Bangladesh's health sector and addressing emerging public health challenges.

Kobir stressed that enhanced international cooperation and effective multilateral partnerships are essential to advance health objectives while accelerating progress towards achieving the SDGs. Dr. Mohamed briefed the state minister on WHO's ongoing and planned cooperation with Bangladesh, which includes support for strengthening the health system, capacity building, disease surveillance, and preparedness for public health emergencies.

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and WHO. They agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of common interest at national, regional, and international levels.
