Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has embarked on an initiative to incorporate a chapter on the registration process of the voter list and National Identity card (NID) into primary, secondary, and higher secondary textbooks. This move aims to educate students on the significance of voter registration and the NID system.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC has already established a high-profile committee tasked with gathering write-ups for the textbooks concerning the voter list and the importance of the NID. The EC has recently extended the committee’s timeframe until September 30 to facilitate this endeavor.

The committee, led by its convener and Election Training Institute (ETI) Director General SM Asaduzzaman, has commenced its activities. Asaduzzaman remarked that the creative nature of the task necessitated the extension of the deadline to September 30, allowing time to collect content and write-ups from creative authors for the initiative.

A letter from the director of the NID registration section, Mohammad Habibur Rahman, has been dispatched to the relevant officials. The letter emphasized the critical importance of raising awareness about voter registration and national identity cards among the current generation, particularly students.

The letter further noted the necessity of including content related to the basic concept, importance, registration process, and use of voter lists and national identity cards in educational textbooks at various levels. This educational effort will help students gain a clear understanding of the subject and acquire practical knowledge.
