Tetulia: Tetulia of Panchagarh district has been experiencing the country’s lowest temperature below 10 degrees Celsius for the last week. Chilly winds have intensified winter woes in the northern region, pushing winter severity to a higher level.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported that Tetulia recorded the country’s lowest temperature at 9.0 degrees Celsius today, with 97 percent humidity and light fog blanketing the area. The cold weather is causing acute suffering, particularly for low-income laborers who are forced to work in open fields and outdoors, enduring bone-chilling conditions that have made daily life increasingly difficult. Although sunshine appeared later in the day, it failed to bring noticeable warmth.
Chattogram, Ambagan, and Bandarban in the southeast part of the country registered the country’s highest temperature at 32.0 degrees Celsius on Sunday, highlighting the stark north-south divide in weather conditions. The BMD statistics showed that the minimum temperature in Tetulia has been hovering around the 10-degree mark for seven straight days, with predictions of further decline in the coming days.
According to the Tetulia Weather Observation Centre, the minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius at 9 am this morning. During this period, humidity stood at 89 percent, while wind speed ranged between 9 and 10 kilometers per hour. On the previous day, Sunday, the minimum temperature was also recorded at 9 degrees Celsius, while on Saturday, the minimum temperature stood at 9.3 degrees, and the same temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius was recorded on Friday as well. The lowest temperature of the current season was recorded on Thursday when the mercury in Tetulia dipped to 8.9 degrees Celsius.
The BMD forecast, issued at 9:00 am today, predicted generally dry weather with partly cloudy skies across most regions over the next 24 hours. Light fog may form in places during early morning hours. Nighttime temperatures could dip slightly, while daytime readings are expected to remain unchanged. In Dhaka, the sun will set at 5:14 pm today and rise at 6:34 am tomorrow.
