Cumilla:Jannatul Tazmin, a 15-year-old seventh grader, was found dead in a paddy field in Lalmai upazila, Cumilla. Police have confirmed that she was strangled to death following a rape.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tazmin had boarded a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of Hotel Nurjahan at Paduar Bazar in Cumilla city on Wednesday, intending to return to her Racecourse residence. However, the autorickshaw driver, identified as Sumon, diverted her to Jagatpur in Lalmai Upazila.
While still in the moving vehicle, Tazmin sent her live location to her father's WhatsApp at 258 am, pleading for help. Unfortunately, her father was asleep and missed the message. Following the incident, Sumon fled the scene, abandoning the auto-rickshaw.
On Friday, police arrested Sumon in Chattogram and recovered Tazmin's iPhone from him. Tazmin's body was discovered on Thursday morning by locals, about 50 yards from the road, in a field with a gamcha wrapped around her neck.
Her father, Abdul Alim, reported that Tazmin had left their rented home in Cumilla on October 4, claiming she was visiting a friend's house, and later traveled to Cox's Bazar. The last contact he had with her was around 200 am on Thursday after she returned to Cumilla. After losing contact, he traced her phone to the Lalmai area and was later informed of her death.
Abdul Alim has since filed a murder case with the Lalmai police station against unidentified individuals concerning his daughter's death.
