Dhaka: A 15-year-old boy lost his life in a fire at Sahar Bazar in Subidpur union, Faridganj upazila, on Saturday morning. The blaze resulted in the destruction of five business establishments.

The victim, identified as Sabbir Hossain, hailed from Chhayal Bari in Shaldah village and was working at Joynal’s grocery shop, where the fire reportedly started.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire erupted around 10:00 am and is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at the grocery shop. The flames swiftly engulfed neighboring businesses in the market.

The affected establishments include Imam Hossain’s Pharmacy, Nazrul’s Fish Food Shop, Zahir’s Workshop, Rubel’s Bicycle Garage, and Shah Alam’s Hardware Shop.

Kamrul Hasan, the Faridganj Fire Service Station In-charge, stated that a fire service unit, with help from local residents, responded promptly to control the fire. Sabbir Hossain’s body was recovered and handed over to the police for legal formalities.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and to verify the fire’s cause.
