Pirojpur:Physician and former National Citizen Party leader Tasnim Jara has openly criticized Jamaat-e-Islami for hindering the burial of freedom fighter Manik Pashari in his homeland of Pirojpur. Jara expressed her concerns over Jamaat's actions and questioned their potential conduct if they were to gain full state power.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tasnim Jara addressed the issue through a post on her verified Facebook page. She highlighted the obstruction faced during Manik Pashari's burial, which took place under tight police security amid resistance from local Jamaat leaders and activists. Pashari, who was involved in a crimes against humanity case against the late Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, was buried in Chitolia village, Pirojpur Sadar upazila.
Jara noted that Jamaat members acted as though they owned the land, dictating burial permissions. She recalled past slogans labeling Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir as collaborators, calling for their departure from Bangladesh. Jara pointed out the irony in Jamaat's current actions, given their historical opposition to Bangladesh's independence and their newfound authority to judge freedom fighters' legitimacy.
In her post, Jara emphasized that ultimate judgment lies with Allah and lamented that Pashari's family was denied the chance to hold his funeral prayer in their village or seek forgiveness from the community. She accused Jamaat of selectively invoking justice, human rights, and dignity for its leaders while neglecting these principles for others, including Pashari and his grieving family.
