Dhaka: BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has taken a rare political step for the victims of the Bangladesh Air Force's training aircraft crash on the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara. He has urged all levels of his party members to support the victims from their respective positions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the directives were issued by Tarique Rahman last night, along with the cancellation of various political programmes. These included pre-scheduled rallies of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Krishak Dal, Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal on the occasion of the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising, and the party's cultural programme. Additionally, special prayers were held for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured.
Tarique Rahman promptly instructed the party's Central Health Affairs Secretary, Dr. Rafiqul Islam, to visit the Milestone plane crash site with a rescue team and a fleet of ambulances. From London, he continuously monitored the progress of the rescue operations for the victims. He also directed the leaders and members of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal, as well as other party affiliates, to assist the families of the victims and the injured.
In parallel, he appealed to leaders and activists at all levels of the BNP to donate blood to the injured who are receiving treatment in various city hospitals. Earlier, during the last meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee held at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan political office, special prayers were offered for the departed souls of the deceased students and pilot, and for the early recovery of the injured. The meeting, chaired by Tarique Rahman, expressed profound shock and sympathy to the bereaved families, as reported by a meeting source to BSS.
Furthermore, BNP's acting chairman has assigned the party's Media Cell convener, Professor Dr. Moudud Hossain Alamgir (Pavel), as the coordinator for taking necessary steps, including post-plane crash medical treatment.
