Dhaka: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman reached the state guesthouse Jamuna with his family to pay a courtesy call on interim government’s Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Tarique Rahman entered Jamuna around 7:30pm, accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, earlier in the evening, Tarique Rahman left the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan at 6:42pm and arrived at his residence at 6:47pm. Shortly thereafter, at 6:52pm, he departed for Jamuna.
Tarique Rahman previously met Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on June 13 last year during the Chief Adviser’s visit to London. At that time, Tarique Rahman was serving as the Acting Chairman of BNP. The meeting took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London, where representatives from both sides released a joint statement.
After spending 17 years in exile in the UK, Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on December 25 last year. Following the passing of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on December 30, Tarique Rahman was appointed as the Chairman of BNP on January 9. The National Standing Committee, the party’s highest policy-making forum, unanimously selected him for the top position during a meeting.
