Dhaka: Inflow of remittances witnessed a year-on-year growth of 69.8 percent, reaching US$1,703 million in the first 14 days of January, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued today. This significant increase marks a robust start to the year for the country’s remittance sector.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, last year during the same period, the country’s remittance inflow was $1,004 million. The sharp increase underscores the vital role expatriates play in bolstering the economy through their financial contributions.
During the period from July to January 14, 2026, of the current fiscal year, expatriates sent remittances totaling $17,969 million. This is a notable rise from the $14,780 million recorded during the same period of the previous fiscal year, highlighting the continued upward trend in remittance inflows.
