Tarique Rahman Sworn In as Prime Minister, New BNP-Led Government Takes Office

Dhaka: Forty-nine ministers and state ministers were sworn in at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to the newly appointed members of the cabinet, marking the official beginning of the new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This event also signifies the return of a BNP-led government after nearly two decades.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the newly appointed ministers include Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who will oversee the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who has been assigned the Ministry of Finance and Planning. Salahuddin Ahmed is now in charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs, while Iqbal Hasan Mahmud takes the helm of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.



The complete list of ministers continues with Hafiz Uddin Ahmed at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain handling the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare, and Khalilur Rahman, a technocrat, leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other notable appointments include Nitai Roy for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Abdul Awal Mintoo for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.



Among the state ministers, M Rashiduzzaman Millat has been appointed to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Anindya Islam Amit will serve in the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. Md Shariful Alam takes on responsibilities for the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Textile and Jute, while Farhad Hossain Azad is with the Ministry of Water Resources. The new lineup also includes Shama Obaid Islam in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock.



The new government has taken charge with a comprehensive team to manage various critical portfolios, marking a significant political shift in the country. The swearing-in ceremony was a pivotal moment, emphasizing the transition to a BNP-led administration after two decades, with Tarique Rahman at its helm.
