Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is en route to the public event venue at 36 Expressway (300-Foot Road) following a warm reception at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Rahman, arriving from London, was greeted with emotional warmth by BNP members led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the airport’s VVIP lounge.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman embraced BNP members with a handshake and smile, exchanging pleasantries with those present, and was welcomed by his family, including his mother-in-law, who presented him with a flower bouquet. After completing airport proceedings, Rahman set off for the venue amidst tight security, displaying his connection to the homeland by touching and sniffing the soil upon departure.

The journey to the 300-Foot Road venue was marked by a motorcade escort and overwhelming enthusiasm from millions of supporters lining the route, chanting slogans in support of Rahman. The festive atmosphere showcased national pride and party allegiance as supporters waved flags, carried the party symbol, and engaged in celebratory activities.

Tarique Rahman’s return, after 17 years in exile, is seen as a significant moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape. The BNP arranged a brief public event at the venue where Rahman will express gratitude to the citizens and seek prayers for the well-being of Begum Khaleda Zia and all citizens. According to BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, the event is not a formal reception but a gesture of appreciation.

Rahman’s itinerary includes visiting his mother at Evercare Hospital and staying at a newly prepared residence on Gulshan Avenue. His return marks a pivotal moment for the BNP, with plans for Rahman to contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election from the Bogura-6 constituency. As he resumes his role within the party, Rahman’s leadership is anticipated to invigorate the BNP and influence the national political climate.

Rahman’s political journey has been fraught with challenges, including imprisonment and exile. Despite these adversities, he maintained his leadership from abroad, advocating for democracy and human rights in Bangladesh. His return is expected to revive hope among BNP supporters and the broader populace for political stability and democratic governance.

Tarique Rahman’s return is more than a personal milestone; it is a symbol of resilience and a potential catalyst for change within Bangladesh’s political sphere. His leadership is poised to navigate the party through upcoming challenges and contribute to shaping the country’s future.
