Dhaka: BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today extended his greetings and congratulations to the countrymen ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha and urged everyone to share the joy of Eid.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in a message, Rahman wished Muslims all over the world, including Bangladesh, continued happiness and comfort. He emphasized the festival's theme of sacrifice, quoting from the Al-Quran that it is the pure desire of one's heart that reaches Allah, not the physical offerings. Rahman highlighted the importance of self-purification, self-satisfaction, and self-sacrifice during this time.
Rahman pointed out that despite challenges such as rising commodity prices and social injustice, the Muslim population's hearts are filled with joy for Eid. He remarked on the relief felt after the fall of what he described as a fascist regime last year, allowing for a more relaxed celebration. He called on the populace to eliminate inequality and prevent issues like corruption and money laundering from recurring.
Animal sacrifice, Rahman noted, is a means of purification and has been essential for Muslims as a test of patience and faith. He stated that the spirit of sacrifice fosters unity and harmony in society. He urged believers to strive for human welfare, reflecting the lesson of sacrifice to gain closeness to Allah.
Rahman described Eid-ul-Azha as one of the two major religious festivals for Muslims, highlighting its universal nature and its inspiration for kindness. However, he acknowledged the current economic situation, expressing concern about the challenges people face in enjoying Eid due to inflation, high food prices, and utility shortages. Rahman urged everyone to ensure no one goes hungry during Eid and to share the celebration equally.
He concluded with hopes that Eid-ul-Azha would bring happiness, peace, and prosperity, fostering harmony in society.
