Dhaka: The 60th birthday of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is observed today. BNP leaders and workers refrained from celebrating his birthday in compliance with directives from Tarique Rahman himself. However, they conveyed their wishes and greetings to the acting chairman through social media. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in their social media posts, BNP leaders and workers praised Tarique Rahman's leadership qualities and his continued efforts toward establishing democracy in Bangladesh. Tarique Rahman is the eldest son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, born on November 20, 1965. Tarique Rahman began his political journey at a young age and gained prominence within the BNP during his mother Begum Khaleda Zia's tenure as prime minister in the early 2000s. Following the political changeover on January 11, Tarique Rahman faced numerous challenges. He has been living in long-term exile due to what he descr ibes as repression and suppression by the ousted Awami League regime. Despite these circumstances, Tarique Rahman has continued to lead the BNP from abroad, and under his leadership, the party has achieved significant milestones.
