Tarique Rahman Accuses Hasina Government of Corruption in Development Projects

Rajshahi: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said that fascist Sheikh Hasina’s government committed mega corruption in the name of mega development. ‘They have destroyed every sector from health to education. Bangladesh needs to be built anew,’ he said while addressing as the chief guest the biennial council of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP here.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman accused the Hasina government of carrying out looting and corruption under the guise of development. He highlighted that during the over 15 years of Hasina’s rule, opposition leaders and activists have been unjustly imprisoned, tortured, and murdered. He emphasized that not only the BNP but other parties opposing the government have also faced unjust treatment.



Rahman praised former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her role in the anti-dictatorship movement. He stressed the need to rebuild Bangladesh, mentioning the importance of establishing factories and industrial institutions to address unemployment. He highlighted the necessity of providing farmers with timely access to seeds and fertilizers and ensuring they receive fair prices for their crops.



He expressed concerns over the drying up of the Padma River due to lack of water and pledged that the BNP would seek a fair share of water through international courts or the United Nations if necessary. Rahman reaffirmed the trust and confidence the people have in the BNP and urged leaders and activists in Rajshahi to work collaboratively.



The biennial conference, held after nearly 15 years, was also addressed by prominent BNP figures, including BNP Chairperson’s Advisers Abdus Salam and former Mayor and MP of Rajshahi City Corporation Mizanur Rahman Minu. The event commenced with the release of balloons and pigeons, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city, which was adorned with posters and festoons of aspirants.
