DHAKA, Jan 5, 2017 (BSS) - State Minister for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Tarana Halim today called upon all to extend cooperation to integrate people with disabilities with the mainstream of the society.
"Improving life standard of challenged people is essential to attain Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)," she said speaking as the chief guest at a seminar in the city.
Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDF) organized the seminar on "Accessible Rights of Women With Disabilities" at Daily Star Bhaban with WDF Chairperson Shirin Akter in the chair, said an official release.
The state minister said initiatives should be taken to ensure easy movement of challenged people in government and non-government offices.
Measures for their safe movement should also be taken at toilets and transports, she added.
Additional Secretary of Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Abdul Malek, Additional Secretary of Ministry for Social Welfare Khandaker Atiar Rahman, Additional Secretary of Ministry for Railways Kamol Krishna Bhattacharya, Institute of Architect Bangladesh (AIB) former President Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed and environmentalist Iqbal Habib addressed the seminar as special guests.
The speaker suggested changes in the designs of roads, public transport and public establishments to enhance participation of challenged people in national development.
