Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today expressed optimism that students from Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa will dedicate themselves to acquiring religious knowledge with the aim of fostering positive societal changes. ‘Thousands of madrasas exist in Bangladesh, but few have earned such wide recognition. People across the country know Tamirul Millat by its name,’ he remarked during a virtual address at the first alumni conference of the historic institution, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon’s city area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the daylong event consisted of four sessions, gathering teachers, alumni, and dignitaries from various sectors. Dr. Rahman expressed gratitude for being able to join the conference virtually and lauded the contributions of the madrasa’s alumni globally. ‘Wherever you work, seek fulfillment through your contribution. Those who receive true religious education are indeed fortunate,’ he advised.

Editor of Daily Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman, noted that the first alumni conference was a moment of joy and renewal, following the July Revolution, which he credited with transforming Bangladesh politically, religiously, and culturally. He emphasized, ‘Through that revolution, we rediscovered our identity as Bengali Muslims.’

Reflecting on his experience, Mahmudur Rahman shared that he realized the madrasa’s global reputation during his studies at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2019. He observed, ‘I saw how highly regarded Tamirul Millat students are. The institution has successfully blended Islamic and modern education in a way that serves as a model for others.’

The event was chaired by the madrasa’s principal and conference convener Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, and attended by leading academics, religious scholars, political figures, and public officials, alongside over 3,000 registered alumni from 120 batches since the madrasa’s inception. The conference commenced with an inaugural address by Tamirul Millat Trust Secretary, Principal Maulana Zainul Abedin.

Notable speakers included preacher Shaikh Ahmadullah, Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nakib Md. Nasrullah, Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam, Madrasa Education Board Chairman Prof. Miah Md.
