Taka 300-Crore Project Launched to Revive Mogalhat Port and Prevent Erosion

Lalmonirhat:Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has announced a project valued at Taka 300 crore to revitalize the Mogalhat Land Port and address river erosion issues in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative includes the construction of a permanent embankment to protect the banks of the Dharla River, aiming to secure Mogalhat and its surrounding areas from erosion. The announcement was made during a ceremony where the Minister laid the foundation stone for a road development project from Mogalhat Railway Station to the Dharla River Ghat.

The Minister also revealed plans to reopen the long-closed Mogalhat land customs station and port. He noted that discussions have been held at the highest levels of government regarding this reopening, and he plans to visit Mogalhat with the relevant Minister to further these efforts.

Dulu expressed confidence that the embankment project, which extends from southern Lalmonirhat to the Kurigram border, would commence soon. He called for local cooperation to transform Mogalhat into a model union, emphasizing crime prevention and educational improvements.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Haque Prodhan, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, and other officials and political leaders attended the event. Prior to this, the Minister also laid the foundation stone for 'Bhutta Chattar' (Maize Square) at the BGB Canteen intersection in Lalmonirhat district town.
