Tajul Hopes to File Formal Charges in July-August Genocide Cases in April

Dhaka: The chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Muhammad Tajul Islam, expressed optimism today about filing formal charges in two significant cases related to genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising. He indicated that the charges could be filed within the current month of April.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ICT has received draft probe reports for three cases. One of these cases involves the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her alleged command responsibility for all the crimes. The other two cases pertain to genocides and crimes against humanity committed in Ashulia and Chankharpul, respectively. Tajul Islam mentioned that the formal charges for two of these cases are expected shortly, allowing for their filing within this month.
