The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup battle between two African countries –South Africa and Zimbabwe –ended in no result due to heavy rain at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Australia on Monday.
South Africa will feel denied of the full points, as they were forced to share one point each with Zimbabwe despite a commanding position.
To be fair, if the umpires restart the match and try to stretch the match for as long as possible then South Africa would not be deprived of a victory in their opener.
In a two and half hour rain delayed start match, Zimbabwe batted first after winning the toss and scored 79 for 5 in a curtailed nine- over match
Number five batter Wessly Madhevere scored the team highest 35 runs off just 18 ball hitting four fours and one six while number six Milton Shumba made 20-ball 18 runs with two boundaries.
Lungi Ngidi grabbed two wickets for 20 runs in two overs.
Chasing a revised winning target of 64 runs in 7 overs, South Africa came close to the victory scoring 51 runs for no loss in just three overs, when umpires called up the match for rain.
South African opener Quinton de Kock was in batting on 47 runs off 18 balls, featuring eight fours and one six at that time with captain Temba Bavume, who was in batting on two runs.
