Suspect Confesses in Shammo Murder Case, Three Others Remanded

Dhaka: A suspect has confessed to his involvement in the stabbing of Dhaka University (DU) student Shahriar Alam Sammo, while three others have been placed on remand as part of the ongoing investigation.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Ripon provided his confessional statement before the court today when police brought all the detainees of the murder case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka. The investigation officer requested a seven-day remand for three other suspects: Sohag, Hridoy Islam, and Robin.



Following the hearing, Magistrate Saifuzzaman granted a two-day remand for each of them. Another accused, Sujon Sarker, was sent to jail after police requested his detention. All five suspects appeared in court today after being arrested from different areas in the capital on Sunday.



Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student of the 2018-’19 session of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) at DU, was stabbed to death on the night of May 13 near Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
