Dhaka: FIDE Master Subrota Biswas of Dhaka University maintained his solo lead in the points table with five points after the fifth round of the Pawn Power Round Robin Chess tournament held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room today (Wednesday).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Suvankar Roy of India followed the leader with 3.5 points. Meanwhile, Subhabrata Roy secured the third position with three points, while Rayan Rashid Mugdho stood in fourth place with 2.5 points.
In the day's fifth-round matches, FM Subrota Biswas achieved victory over Jinnat Akter Shahnaz. Playing with the white pieces against Jinnat's Caro-Kann Defense, Subrota secured his win after an extensive 56 moves. Suvankar Maity also emerged victorious, defeating Abrar Reazul Ahnaf Mohammad. Suvankar played with the white pieces using the Scotch Game system, clinching the win after 37 moves.
Additionally, the match between Rayan Rashid Mugdho and Shubhabrata Roy ended in a draw. Mugdho, playing with black and employing the Semi-Slav Defense, managed to hold the game to a stalemate after 34 moves. Meanwhile, Candidate Master Avik Sarker claimed victory over Siam Chowdhury. CM Avik, playing with white pieces in an Indian Game setup, secured his win after 50 moves.
In another match, Shahinur Haque defeated India's Arman Siddiqui. Shahinur, adopting the Sicilian Defense with the black pieces, completed his victory after 43 moves.
