Dhaka: Prof. Abdus Salam of the Department of Chemistry has officially assumed the role of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at the University of Dhaka (DU). The government appointed him to the position on April 13, with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the universities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a ceremony was held at the Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university to mark Prof. Salam's joining. Vice-Chancellor Prof. A B M Obaidul Islam welcomed the new Pro-Vice Chancellor, expressing a firm commitment to collaborate for the university's development. He praised Prof. Salam's academic competence and experience, anticipating that the university's education system would advance under his leadership.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged that incorrect decisions in previous years had impeded expected progress in some areas and called for transparency and accountability from teachers, officers, and staff in all administrative aspects. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha expressed hope that Prof. Salam's appointment would invigorate education and research at the university.
Prof. Abdus Salam expressed his honor in receiving this responsibility from the government and sought the cooperation of all to fulfill his duties effectively. During the event, the Vice-Chancellor also expressed sorrow over an accident involving a BRTC bus carrying university students, which resulted in injuries to several students, and wished them a speedy recovery.
