Dhaka: Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC has handed over a cheque worth Taka 1,25,40,394 from its annual dividend to the Labour Welfare Foundation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in line with the provisions of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, the company provided 0.5 percent of its annual dividend to the foundation, stated an official handout. The contribution was facilitated by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, who handed over the cheque to the Labour and Employment Adviser, Brig Gen (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, at his ministry office.
Sakhawat Hussain emphasized the importance of such initiatives by institutions for the welfare of workers. He noted that this financial support would significantly impact the socio-economic development of workers, both in the formal and informal sectors. The funds are earmarked to provide financial assistance to destitute workers and the families of deceased workers, offer scholarships to workers’ children, and cover emergency medical expenses.
The event was attended by Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Dr. Md. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, and Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC General Manager Targhibul Islam.
