A student was killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a bicycle on the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in front of Ranibandar College Mor Baza area under Chirirbandar upazila of the district today.
The deceased was identified as Prashant Roy, 15, son of Shyamal Roy, resident of Kshenpara of Alokdihi Union of the upazila. He was a 10th class student of Alokdihi JB High School of the area.
Dinajpur Dasmile Highway police station sub-inspector (SI) Nani Gopal said when Prashant Roy was going riding his bicycle, a Dinajpur-bound goods-laden truck collided head-on with his bicycle coming from opposite direction around 11:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for post-mortem, he added.
Later, the body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem.
Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, he said.
