Stocks on DSE Decline While CSE Shows Modest Gains

Dhaka: The country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), experienced a downturn today primarily due to a decline in the prices of large-cap securities. DSEX, the broad index of DSE, fell by 22.4 points, closing at 4,754 points compared to 4,777 points in the previous trading session.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, trading activities at DSE remained stagnant with a low total turnover amounting to Taka 3.1 billion. On the sectoral front, Food sector issues accounted for the highest turnover at 16.8%, followed by Pharma at 13.5% and Bank sectors at 12.1%.



Most sectors showed lackluster returns with Financial Institution, Ceramic, and Life Insurance sectors undergoing notable corrections of 1.8%, 1.4%, and 1.3% respectively, while Telecom exhibited a slight gain of 0.7%. Among the 397 issues traded, 69 advanced, 254 declined, and 74 remained unchanged.



Conversely, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), ended on a positive note. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) experienced slight gains, advancing by 6.4 points and 1.6 points, respectively.
