Dhaka: Dhaka University authorities have warned of strict administrative action against those involved in activities by the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) that they said are inconsistent with the university's laws, regulations, policies, and administrative structure. Any attempt to establish a parallel structure or process that bypasses the university's administrative authority will be strictly resisted.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the university authorities have noticed several reports published in different media about DUCSU activities and made their position clear on the issues. They stated that the installation falls outside DUCSU's jurisdiction under the university's own laws.
The university authorities also noted that photographs of Pakistan's then Governor-General Muhammad Ali Jinnah and then student union leader Abdul Malek were displayed at the DUCSU museum. They emphasized that displaying photographs of individuals whose positions conflict with the history of the Language Movement and Bangladesh's independence is not acceptable at the university museum.
They warned that strict administrative action would be taken against those responsible in accordance with the university's existing rules and regulations. Additionally, they pointed out that DUCSU had launched a website without approval to evaluate university teachers, which is inconsistent with the university's policies and institutional procedures.
Teacher evaluation is regarded as an important academic and institutional matter, and no individual, organization, or students' union can introduce a separate evaluation system on its own initiative. The authorities further alleged that the website had made teachers' personal information publicly available, which they described as a punishable offence under the law.
Dhaka University already has its own policy for Teaching Evaluation, approved at the highest level of the university and in the process of being implemented. Consequently, any attempt to introduce a separate teacher evaluation system outside the approved policy is deemed unacceptable and damaging to the university's reputation.
The authorities described DUCSU's actions as 'undesirable, unexpected and unacceptable.' They emphasized their commitment to maintaining institutional discipline and protecting the dignity of the history of Bangladesh's Language Movement and Liberation War.
Strict administrative action is warned under existing rules against anyone involved in constructing structures without university approval or attempting to establish a separate administrative system. The statement was issued by Farrukh Mahmud, deputy director of the Public Relations Office of Dhaka University.
