State Minister Urges Youth to Combat Misinformation

Dhaka:State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today emphasized the importance of youth involvement in preventing misinformation and disinformation, describing their spread on social media as a troubling development.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister highlighted the critical role young people must play in identifying and countering false information. He made these remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the Second National Media Carnival 2026 at Notre Dame College in the capital.

The minister noted the historical significance of the student community in Bangladesh's nation-building efforts, particularly referencing their contributions to the 2024 student-people's movement. He stressed the importance of media literacy and the ability to discern truth from falsehood, urging students to develop responsible communication skills.

Reflecting on his own time as a student at Notre Dame College, Yasser Khan Choudhury shared personal memories and expressed optimism that regular media carnivals could foster creativity, analytical skills, and responsible citizenship among students.

He assured that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's directives, continues to support initiatives that engage and empower young people.

The event was attended by notable figures including Notre Dame College Principal Dr. Father Hemanto Pius Rozario, and representatives from various organizations. Students from diverse educational institutions across the country participated in the carnival, which was organized by the Notre Dame Media and Communication Club to enhance skills in media, communication, research, and creativity.
