Dhaka: Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain today emphasized the moral responsibility of supporting families of those martyred or injured in democratic movements, starting with the Great Liberation War of 1971. He made these remarks as the chief guest at a doa mahfil held at Shaheed Farhan Faiyaz Playground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The event marked the 19th birth anniversary of Shaheed Farhan Faiyaz, attended by his parents, Alhaj Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan and Farhana Diba.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted Bangladesh's progress towards a free and democratic environment achieved through the people's relentless struggle over the past 15 years. He stated that the government is committed to building a discrimination-free, humane, and inclusive Bangladesh based on dignity, justice, and good governance. During the event, a special prayer and munajat were offered for the eternal peace and forgiveness of Farhan Faiyaz's departed soul, followed by the cutting of a birthday cake, which was distributed among orphaned children.
The event also featured a friendly football match between Red and Green teams, comprising students of Dhaka Residential Model College. The championship trophy was awarded to the winning Red team by the minister and Farhan's parents. Md Tarikul Alam, Managing Director of the National Foundation for Development of Persons with Disabilities, presided over the event. Farhan Faiyaz, also known as Mohammad Farhanul Islam Bhuiyan, was a Class XI science student at Dhaka Residential Model College and became one of the martyrs during the July Mass Uprising of 2024. On July 18, 2024, he joined the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhanmondi and sustained a fatal gunshot wound during an attack on students. He was declared dead at Dhanmondi City Hospital.
