SSC examinee, BB official killed in city road accidents

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2017 (BSS) - A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee and a Bangladesh Bank (BB) official were killed in separate road accidents in city's Mohakhali and Tikatuli areas this morning.

The victims were identified as Shihabul Islam Shihab, 14, son of Jahangir Alam, an SSC examinee and a student of Banani Bidya Niketon School and Golam Hossain, 45, a deputy director (DD) of Bangladesh Bank.

Shihab sustained critical head injuries as he hit himself with a lamppost soon after he popped out his head of the bus window in Amtali area near Mohakhali flyover around 9.30 in the morning, Sub Inspector (SI) Golam Rabbani of Banani Police Station told BSS.

Shihab was going to Ramijuddin High School at Uttara to appear in English 1st paper examination in a bus, the SI added.

The injured was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead around 11.45am.

In another accident, a BB official was killed and three others were injured when a passenger bus hit a roadside island after the driver lost control over the steering at Tikaluli Intersection this morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Wari Police Station Mohammad Zehad Hossain told BSS that the accident took place when a Sayedabad-bound intercity bus from Gulistan hit the roadside Island at about 7:45 in the morning.

The injured were rushed to DMCH where Golam Hossain, an official of the Central Bank, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to hospital.

Three other injured -- Jalal Uddin, 56, Sahida Begum, 40 and Sujon, 28, -- were undergoing treatment at the DMCH, while the condition of Jalal is stated to be critical.

Filing of cases to this end is underway.
