Sports play an important role to build a healthy society and it helps youth to stay drug-free, said Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, lawmaker from Khulna-2.
He said this at the awarding ceremony of Khulna district's eminent sports personalities for their unique contribution in the field of sports at the Guljan City premises in Labanchara, Khulna this afternoon.
He said that the athletes are shining the image of the country in the global arena through their sports talent.
The parliamentarian also said that the government is constructing many stadiums at the district and upazila levels of the country, including three mini stadiums in Khulna for the expansion of sports in the country.
Eminent educationist and former sports organiser Professor Zafar Imam, former national football stars Sheikh Md Aslam and Yunus Ali Ghazi spoke on the occasion. Former sportsmen of the district were also present at the event.
