Chattogram: Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury has called for the engagement of internationally reputed experts to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed Monorail project in the port city. Dr. Anis made this recommendation during a meeting with Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CCC mayor sought comprehensive support from the government to bring the project to fruition. The meeting, which took place at Tiger Pass city Bhavan, was also attended by Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, President of the Greater Chattogram Economic Forum and former CCCI President.

During the meeting, Mayor Shahadat Hossain revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed on June 24 between CCC, Arab Contractor, and Orascom Peninsula Consortium to facilitate a feasibility study and the execution of the Chattogram Monorail Project. The CCC has also reached out to the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) for support in conducting the feasibility study.

The mayor noted that BIDA has promptly engaged with various ministries, including Local Government, Road Transport and Bridge Division, and Power Division, requesting them to take appropriate measures. Dr. Shahadat emphasized the importance of the monorail project in alleviating traffic congestion and boosting investments related to the country's main seaport.

Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury reiterated the importance of involving experienced international experts to ensure the project's timely and effective execution. Additionally, Dr. Anis inquired about the progress in addressing the water-logging issues in the port city. Mayor Shahadat informed him that about 60 percent of the water-logging problems have been resolved this year, thanks to directives from Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and coordinated efforts from various organizations.
