Dhaka: Jahangir Alam Shanto of Narsingdi has secured the first position in the admission test for government and private medical and dental colleges for the 2025-26 academic year. Shanto achieved a remarkable score of 91.25 marks, outshining 120,440 candidates. The overall pass rate in this year's medical admission test was 66.57 percent. He took the examination at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College centre in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shanto hails from Khamarerchar village under Narayanpur union of Belabo upazila in Narsingdi district. He is the eldest of three siblings. His father, Md Mizanur Rahman, operates a small grocery shop, while his mother, Ferdousi Begum, is a homemaker. Reflecting on his journey, Shanto mentioned that although he initially aimed for an engineering career, he shifted his focus to medicine. Despite facing challenges like dengue during his preparation, he persevered with regular studies and online coaching.
Shanto credits his success to his parents' prayers, teachers' guidance, and his dedication. He emphasized the importance of long-term study for success in the medical admission test. Looking ahead, Shanto aspires to specialize in cancer or oncology and aims to support underprivileged and helpless communities through his medical career.
His father, Md Mizanur Rahman, expressed joy over Shanto's accomplishment, noting the family's efforts to provide education despite limited resources. Shanto's mother, Ferdousi Begum, highlighted his academic achievements, including scholarships and high grades in SSC and HSC examinations.
Moniruzzaman, headmaster of Baroicha Residential Model High School, where Shanto completed his SSC, expressed pride in the former student's achievement. Shanto's educational journey also included primary education at Baroicha Oxford Academy and HSC completion with Golden GPA-5 from Tejgaon Government Science College.
