Dhaka: A special lecture to raise awareness on ‘intangible cultural heritage’ protection among the young generation will be held at the Dhaka University (DU) tomorrow. The programme titled ‘2025 ICH Youth Network Special Lecture’ will be held at DU’s Mujaffar Ahmad Chowdhury Auditorium at 2 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the special lecture has been arranged with the joint initiative of UNESCO ICHCAP and the Department of Anthropology of Dhaka University. The main conception under the intangible cultural heritage encompasses the beliefs of every community, rituals, performances, social festivals, handicrafts, surrounding knowledge, and traditions used in environmental protection. It also represents an identity of the culture and an integral part of tradition.
Such traditions are passed down from generation to generation, maintaining the culture of society and social cohesion. However, many traditions face the threat of extinction due to the influence of globalization, making it indispensable to increase awareness and participation of the young generation in protecting intangible cultural heritage.
