Special Committee of 13th Jatiya Sangsad Reviews Energy Measures

Dhaka: The second meeting of the Special Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, formed to prepare recommendations on addressing the emerging energy situation in the country and submit a report to parliament, was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The meeting was chaired by the committee chairman and Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, committee members including State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Whip A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nijan), Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahammed Apu, Moinul Islam Khan, Md Saiful Alam, Md Nurul Islam, Md Abdul Baten, Md Abul Hasnat, and Mohammad Abul Hasan attended the session. The ministry presented ongoing projects to ensure uninterrupted energy supply and discussed existing scenarios, policies, and guidelines for renewable energy expansion.



The ministry informed the committee about efforts to update policy guidelines related to the establishment, operation, and management of filling stations. Additionally, updates on the Gas Marketing Rules-2026 were shared, which have been formulated by updating the previous Gas Marketing Rules-2014.



Officials reported that the Chattogram-Dhaka oil pipeline project has been completed, with full-scale oil supply through the pipeline expected to begin by the end of June. The committee reviewed various aspects of the prevailing energy situation, with members contributing their opinions and observations during the discussion.



The meeting encouraged opposition party members to submit their recommendations in writing to the committee to address the evolving energy situation. The committee decided to submit a report to parliament containing necessary recommendations to tackle the energy-related situation.



Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
